Alice: Madness Returns for iOS is an interactive storybook that explains the story between the video games American McGee’s Alice and Madness Returns.
In the first game, American McGee's Alice, we saw how a traumatized Alice lost touch with realty after the mysterious death of her family. Stuck in an asylum, she returns to Wonderland to find it terrifyingly twisted by her disturbed mind.
In this interactive novel that serves as a prequel to the PC and console title of the same name, American McGee’s Alice is a short but engaging introduction to this very dark re-imagining of Wonderland. Images and music accompany text in Alice: Madness Returns for iOS, which is uncovered as you manipulate each page of the storybook.
Objects you need to interact with flash occasionally, and while there are no direct instructions, you are unlikely to get stuck. The art style is great, and the sound adds lots of atmosphere. The touchscreen controls sometime feel a little unresponsive, but Alice: Madness Returns never makes you rush. It's nice to see such a carefully created companion piece for a game.
Chilling and dark, Alice: Madness Returns for iOS is a short but effective 'interactive storyboard', that's a great way to get in to the full console and PC game.
